Dan is a national leader in issues management and employee communications, with more than 25 years of corporate and healthcare organization communications experience.
Dan founded Tipton Health in 2005 after serving as director of communications for MBNA Corporation, a Fortune 150 company (now part of Bank of America), for more than a decade. He now serves as strategic communications counsel to some of the nation’s most progressive corporations and healthcare organizations.
A graduate of the University of Delaware, Dan also earned his MBA at the school. He is a past president of the Delaware chapter of the Public Relations Society of America and the Delaware chapter of the International Association of Business Communicators and formerly directed the Crozier Foundation.
An accomplished project manager, technical writer and workplace trainer, Michelle brings more than 20 years of experience and industry leadership in project and process management, continuous improvement and statistical process control. She is not only skilled at getting the job done—one of her strongest attributes is her ability to engage, work with and teach others.
Michelle has led multiple world-class hospitals through the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Magnet Recognition Program® documentation and submission process. A systems thinker, she is focused, organized and tenacious. Michelle has the experience, the leadership, the methodology and the discipline our clients are looking for to help them succeed.
Michelle has a master’s degree in industrial education and a bachelor’s in graphic communications from Clemson University.
Moira has more than 20 years of communications experience—15 at MBNA Corporation (now part of Bank of America) and six in the nonprofit world—writing content and overseeing production for magazines, newsletters, brochures, websites, press releases, presentations, speeches, social media and fundraising solicitations.
Since 2011, Moira has reviewed, edited and written thousands of Magnet documents, as well as other hospital certification documents. She now leads a team of more than a dozen experienced Magnet writers and editors who support our hospital clients.
An effective communicator, mentor and teacher, Moira focuses on anticipating and delivering on her readers’ needs, distilling complex concepts into simple, accessible messages. She forms solid working relationships across all levels, builds consensus and thrives on sharing an organization’s passion and mission with others.
A graduate of the University of Delaware, Moira is a past chair of the Western Family YMCA Board of Governors.
Elizabeth Abrahams, MSN, RN
As an advanced practice nurse and an accomplished author of several nursing textbook chapters and journal articles, Elizabeth provides valuable support to clients in their Magnet application process. With more than 25 years in nursing, Elizabeth’s experience in patient care, quality improvement and nursing education/research gives her the ability to guide clients through the writing process and capture the contributions of clinical nurses. Her unique insight helps clients create focused and well-organized documents that demonstrate nursing excellence and best practice. Elizabeth has a master of science in nursing from Georgetown University and a bachelor's in nursing from the University of New Hampshire.
Melissa brings 11 years of project management, training and auditing skills that she honed as a Quality Management Systems (ISO 9000 and ISO 14000) consultant. She is passionate about customers and an excellent problem-solver.
Melissa is our point person for Magnet’s “Big 3” documents (EP3EO, EP22EO and EP23EO). She is responsible for analyzing our clients’ patient satisfaction data, nurse quality indicators and nurse satisfaction data and presenting it in an easy-to-understand format that meets ANCC Magnet guidelines.
Melissa is a graduate of Mercyhurst University, with a degree in biology education.
As Tipton's communications and marketing manager, Nicole implements communications and public relations strategies to meet client communications, social media, marketing and public relations needs. Nicole oversees all Tipton client communications support, with a focused interest in the independent school, university and nonprofit communications market.
Before joining the Tipton team in 2014, Nicole served as vice president of her school’s chapter of the Public Relations Student Society of America and Shadow PR Firm, while also completing two internships within communications-related fields.
A graduate of Monmouth University, Nicole has a bachelor’s degree in Communication and a minor in Information Technology.
Natalie coordinates employee communication efforts, provides public relations and media support and develops marketing communications and social media programs for clients as a communications specialist.
Before joining Tipton in 2015, Natalie served as a social media ambassador for the University of Delaware, president of the Public Relations Student Society of America Chapter at UD and as a marketing and social media assistant for the Career Services Center. After completing three internships in the Delaware area, Natalie interned with Tipton Communications for a year.
A graduate of the University of Delaware, Natalie earned a bachelor’s degree in mass communication and two minors in advertising and organizational community leadership. She also earned UD’s Department of Communication’s Hal Kierce Award, an award granted to an outstanding communications/public relations student who exhibits a commitment to professional excellence.
Lauren lends her video production and management expertise as a communication specialist, alongside aiding in marketing, public relations and social media support.
Before joining the Tipton team in 2016, Lauren served as an athletic multimedia videographer for the University of Delaware, a member of the Public Relations Student Society of America and was an editor for the University of Delaware’s fashion magazine.
Lauren is a graduate of the University of Delaware, where she completed her bachelor’s degree in communications and a minor in journalism.
With expertise in concept design, presentation, and project management, Karen Zucca brings years of creative experience to Tipton Communications as Creative Director. Her talents aid Tipton in the development of corporate identity programs, promotional materials, annual reports, catalogues and more.
Before joining Tipton, Karen worked in small and large agency environments giving her a deep understanding of client needs and creative problem solving. She has a Bachelor of the Arts in design from Queens University and her previous roles have given her the opportunity to work in healthcare, consumer banking, loyalty marketing, human resources and more. Karen also takes her time to volunteer with Al Dupont’s Child Life Department, Girl Scouts of New Jersey and Food Bank of Delaware.
As administrative assistant, Kaitlyn provides organizational support to the president of Tipton and manages various projects throughout the office. Kaitlyn also tracks and maintains Magnet® documents.
She coordinates documented expenses and marketing reports for the company, in addition to serving as the point of contact for all internal and external clients.
Before joining Tipton in 2017, Kaitlyn served as assistant director for marketing and promotions at Cedarville University’s Athletic Department, as well as an assistant soccer coach at Trevecca Nazarene University.
A graduate of Cedarville University, Kaitlyn earned a bachelor’s degree in sports business management. She is also pursuing a master’s degree in organizational leadership, where she will graduate in January 2018.
Kaye Hixon, RN, PHD
As a former ANCC Magnet Appraiser, Kaye Hixon, RN, PHD, has mentored new appraisers and reviewed more than 40 hospital applications for Magnet recognition throughout her years of service.
Kaye holds an associate of arts degree, a bachelor's degree in nursing, and a master's degree in nursing administration and informatics from the University of Maryland. She earned her doctorate in health services administration in 2005. Dr. Hixon worked for the Veterans Health Administration for 28 years. At the James A. Haley VA in Tampa, FL, she led quality programs for the VA’s largest academic medical facility and its eight satellite clinics. She coordinated Tampa’s successful quest for Magnet recognition in February 2000; the hospital was the 14th hospital to receive Magnet designation.James A Haley VA won the ANCC’s “Magnet Prize’ for its Patient Safety Center of Inquiry.
She is certified by the ANCC for Executive Nursing Leadership.
Susan George, RN, NEA-BC
Susan has held multiple senior nursing roles at healthcare organizations throughout the U.S., including serving as Associate Director, Patient Care Services (Chief Nursing Officer) for nearly a decade at Martinsburg Veterans Administration Medical Center. She helped Martinsburg become the first V.A. medical center to earn Pathway to Excellence certification. She nows serves as a Senior Consultant supporting hospitals submitting for Pathway designation.
Susan has earned her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of Pittsburgh and her master's degree in Public Health from the University of South Florida.
Sue Peters, MA
Sue works with Tipton as a senior consultant for fundraising and strategic communication projects. Previously, she directed development communications for the University of Pennsylvania’s medical school and health system. At Penn, her team provided all communication support for the school’s record-setting $1.3 billion campaign.
As VP of Synchrogenix Information Strategies in Wilmington, Delaware, Sue led significant projects for Fortune 500 clients in the IT, engineering, chemical, and pharma industries.
Sue earned her B.A. in English and Anthropology from the College of William and Mary, followed by an M.A. in English from the University of Delaware.
As a key member of our web development team, Karen manages the conversion of documents into web format, constructs ANCC-compliant websites that enable our clients to submit their Magnet documents for e-submission, and performs quality assurance and user interface testing. Karen has a dual bachelor degree in marketing and management from The Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania.
As a dedicated e-submission consultant, Gretchen has proven to be an invaluable asset throughout the Magnet application process. Gretchen supports our hospital clients with her writing and editing abilities while she also successfully troubleshoots documentation, finding solutions to any problems that may arise. Gretchen’s communication and research skills, along with her assistance in building client websites, help hospitals achieve documentation certification.
