Strong council structures alone don’t create nursing excellence. Leadership behaviors do. In this webinar, nurse leaders from John Muir Health, a Magnet designated health system in the San Francisco East Bay, share how they transformed two medical centers with inconsistent shared governance structures into a unified professional governance model where clinical nurses own their practice and drive decisions. The discussion follows their journey from assessment through redesign, exploring how psychological safety, protected time, clear roles, and intentional leader behaviors turned councils focused on information sharing into engines of decision making, professional growth, and improved outcomes.

  • Roxanne Holm, MSN, RN, NPD-BC is Director, Nursing Excellence & Magnet Programs at John Muir Health.
  • Nicole Hiebert, PhD, RN, CMSRN is Nurse Leader, Nursing Excellence at John Muir Health.
