When you begin your Magnet® Designation journey, one of the first touchpoints you will have with the Tipton Health Data Services Team is your Fab 5 Overview Meeting. While it may seem like your data submissions are still far off, this early meeting is actually one of the most important steps in your path to Magnet Designation.

Here’s why it matters and why we encourage you to schedule it early, even if you do not feel quite ready.

5 Reasons You Need the Fab 5 Meeting

  1. Get Your Bearings Early

During the Fab 5 Overview Meeting, our Data Services Team walks you through the structure of your eight-quarter data window. We will assess whether you currently have enough measures in place. If not, we will guide you on how to begin collecting them now, so you can avoid challenges later. Meeting early also gives you time to retroactively enter data, if needed, or make any changes with your vendor’s database.

We will also help determine which quarters to report for each data source. For example, NSI and Patient Experience data often follow different quarterly calendars. Sorting that out early helps ensure your data submissions are accurate and aligned with Magnet requirements.

  1. Clarify Unit Groupings and Gaps

We will help identify which of your units are grouped, which are expected to report, and which may be missing data. Addressing these gaps early gives you the time to adjust and ensure your data is complete when it matters most.

  1. Plan for Change

If you are changing vendors or modifying how your data is collected, the Fab 5 Overview is the ideal time to flag potential concerns. We can help you identify issues in advance and create a plan to manage transitions smoothly and without disruptions.

  1. Align on Review Expectations

This meeting is also an opportunity to align on Tipton Health’s role in your data review. You can let us know if you prefer a full or partial review of your files. We will also clarify whether you are using vendor graphs or if a Tipton Health ANCC-approved graph is needed for specific scenarios.

  1. Talk about Specialty Measures

If you are using a specialty measure, such as chemotherapy extravasations for your ambulatory nurse-sensitive measure, this meeting is the right time to talk through how your organization collects and presents that data. Together, we can determine the best strategy for your documentation.

The Bottom Line: Schedule Early

We understand that data may not feel urgent at the beginning of your journey, but the Fab 5 Overview lays the groundwork for success. It helps you ask the right questions, understand your timeline, and move forward with clarity and confidence.
If you have started your Magnet Designation journey and have not yet had your Fab 5 Overview, Tipton Health’s Data Services Team will be reaching out soon to get it scheduled. We are excited to support you throughout the process and look forward to working with you.
